Do peas, beans, etc. in your soup mixes have to be rinsed before using due to pesticides, preservatives or dirt? What do you suggest?
We purchase our beans, legumes, and grains from reputable sources. They are considered “clean” when we make our soup mixes. However, some people prefer to give these ingredients an extra rinse or wash in water before cooking. While this is not necessary, if it gives you peace of mind, simply pinch off the ingredients you want to wash, and rinse them in water.
If you want to soak the beans/legumes to facilitate the breakdown of lectins and reduce the cooking time, you can easily do so after washing.
(If soaking beans/legumes you may want to reduce water used in preparing soup mix as beans will absorb water from soaking.)
