I have questions about allergens, ingredients and what the term 'May contain' means. Can you provide more information so I can decide if your products are right for our family?

While we know that this might get a bit technical we thought this information about labelling may be helpful in answering some of your questions!

Labelling in Canada is regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency with specific rules about how we list our ingredients including allergens.

The word "Ingredients" on our label is followed by all the things that we intentionally put in the soup and know are in there. At the end of the ingredients section are the words "May Contain". Anything that follows "May Contain" are ingredients that we have not intentionally put in the mix, but that may have been included unintentionally and usually only in very small amounts.

Most of these come from how our suppliers have stored or handled their products. For example, if they stored wheat on the shelf next to beans, then wheat would potentially have to be included in the “May Contain” section of anything made with the beans. Also, the "May Contain" section only applies to "allergens" as defined by CFIA.

We hope this will be helpful in understanding how to read our labels so you can make a decision on what is appropriate for the health of you and your family.
